LOVE this book, and learning from it every time I re-read it. The determination and sheer physical fortitude it took for this woman, delicately reared in Paris and Brussels, is inspiration for men and women alike. It is very interesting her hidden journey into central Tibet, one can discover the stubborn and perseverance who took David Neel to the confines of the Himalayas. I forgot the name of the author and the name of the book later but every once in a while I’d try to search for it – thank goodness for the Internet!

I bought this book for a friend, having read it myself years ago. Alas, the country that Alexandra David-Neel describes in her travels is no more. In order to neeel Tibet and reach Lhasa, she used her fluency of Tibetan dialects and culture, disguised herself as a beggar with yak hair extensions and inked skin and tackled some of the roughest terrain and climate in the World.
This is a wonderful book and worth a look. These women and the many others featured in the book are an incredible inspiration.
